How to Draw an Open Door

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw an open door in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the doorway.

Print

  1. Step 1: The doorway

A little right of the middle draw a tall box for the doorway, twice as tall as it is wide.

Tip Leave lots of room on the left for the open door.

  2. Step 2: The open door

From the doorway's top left corner draw a line out and up, then straight down, then back to the doorway.

Tip The door's outer edge is taller than the doorway, because it is closer to you.

  3. Step 3: The door frame

Start on the door's top edge. Draw the frame up, across and down the right side. Stop at the bottom.

Tip Keep the frame a thumb's width outside the doorway.

  4. Step 4: Wall line

Draw a line from edge to edge, level with the bottom of the doorway, where the wall meets the floor.

Tip Skip over the open door: it stands in front of the wall.

  5. Step 5: Room floor

Inside the doorway, near the bottom, draw a line across from side to side for the floor of the room.

  6. Step 6: Two planks

Draw 2 lines straight down the door, from its top edge to its bottom edge, for the planks.

  7. Step 7: Round knob

Halfway down the door, near its outer edge, draw a round knob.

Tip Keep the knob off the plank line.

  8. Step 8: Two hinges

Where the door meets the doorway draw 2 small boxes on the door for hinges, one high and one low.

  9. Step 9: The doormat

In front of the doorway draw a flat mat on the floor, a little wider at the bottom.

  10. Step 10: Pale floor

Colour the floor a pale sandy colour, inside the room and down to the bottom, around the door and mat.

  11. Step 11: Warm yellow light

Colour the rest of the doorway yellow, like warm light shining out. Colour the knob yellow too.

Tip Stop at the floor line: the floor stays sandy.

  12. Step 12: Stone frame, red mat

Colour the door frame stone grey and the doormat red.

  13. Step 13: Wooden door

Colour the door wood brown around the knob, and the 2 hinges slate grey. Your open door is done!
