How to Draw a Jail
Draw a jail in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big box.
Step 1: The big box
In the middle of your paper draw a big wide box for the jail wall.
Tip A jail is wider than it is tall.
Step 2: The flat roof
On top of the box draw a thin flat box that sticks out a little past each side.
Step 3: The sign board
Start on the roof, left of the middle. Go up, across and back down to the roof.
Tip Make the board about half as wide as the roof.
Step 4: The name
Write JAIL in big capital letters across the sign board.
Tip Leave a little space between the letters and the edges of the board.
Step 5: The door
From the bottom line draw a tall door up, across and back down to it. Add a window and knob.
Step 6: Two big windows
On each side of the door draw a big square window, halfway up the wall.
Step 7: The bars
Draw 4 bars straight down each big window, top edge to bottom edge. Draw 2 down the little one.
Tip Keep the bars the same distance apart, like the teeth of a comb.
Step 8: Stone blocks
Draw 5 little rounded bricks here and there on the wall, not touching the windows or the door.
Step 9: The ground
From each bottom corner, draw a ground line out to the side. Add 3 grass blades at each end.
Step 10: Yellow sign, blue windows
Colour the sign yellow, around the letters. Colour the 3 windows sky blue, between the bars.
Step 11: Grey walls
Colour the wall grey, around the windows and the door.
Tip Colour right over the little bricks: they are grey too.
Step 12: Roof and door
Colour the roof dark grey and the door brown, around its window. Your jail is done!
Tip Press harder on the roof so it comes out darker than the wall.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a jail, drawn by you.
