How to Draw a Barbed Wire Fence
Draw a barbed wire fence in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first post.
Step 1: The first post
On the left draw a tall thick post with a flat top and soft corners, standing on the ground.
Tip Make it about 2 fingers wide.
Step 2: Two more posts
Draw 2 more posts the same height, one in the middle and one on the right.
Tip Leave the same big gap between each pair of posts.
Step 3: The ground
Draw a long ground line under the posts from the left edge of the paper to the right edge.
Step 4: The top wire
Start near the top of the first post. Draw a straight wire across and stop on the last post.
Tip Lift your pencil at the middle post, so the wire goes behind it.
Step 5: Two more wires
Draw 2 more wires from the first post, one halfway down and one lower. Stop each on the last post.
Tip Real fence wire is pulled tight, so keep the lines straight.
Step 6: Top barbs
On the top wire draw 3 small X shapes in each gap between the posts. These are the sharp barbs.
Tip Keep each X small and thin, like a tiny twist of wire.
Step 7: Middle barbs
On the middle wire draw 2 small X barbs in each gap, under the spaces between the top barbs.
Step 8: Bottom barbs
On the bottom wire draw 3 small X barbs in each gap, lined up under the top barbs.
Step 9: Grass
Along the ground draw 4 grass tufts, each 3 short blades from one spot, the middle one tallest.
Step 10: Green grass
Go over your lines. Colour the ground green, from the ground line down to the bottom of the paper.
Step 11: Brown posts
Colour the 3 posts brown, like old wooden fence posts. Your barbed wire fence is done!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a barbed wire fence, drawn by you.
