How to Draw an Octopus
Draw an octopus in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head and body.
Step 1: The head and body
In the top half of your paper draw one big soft egg upside down, wider low down.
Tip Like a round bread roll, not a cup. Arms grow from the round underside.
Step 2: The face
Across the middle draw 2 big round eyes with black dots. Below them draw a small smile and 2 cheeks.
Step 3: Two waving arms
Start low on each side. Sweep a fat arm out and curl it up to a round tip.
Step 4: Two long arms
Start under the body on each side. Draw a long arm down and out to the seabed.
Tip Round tip. Leave a clear gap between it and the waving arm.
Step 5: Two front arms
Start under the body near the middle. Draw an arm hanging down to a round tip on the seabed.
Step 6: Two arms behind
Draw a short arm peeking out from behind each long arm, under the waving arm, to a round tip.
Tip Do both sides: 8 arms now. These 2 are tucked behind the long arms.
Step 7: Suckers
Along the inside edge of the long arms and front arms draw 2 little circles each.
Step 8: Seabed
Draw a long gently wavy line across the bottom of the paper, just under the arm tips.
Step 9: Seaweed
Between the left long arm and front arm, draw a seaweed leaf up from the seabed to a point.
Step 10: Bubbles
Near the top right corner, draw 3 bubbles, getting smaller as they float up.
Step 11: Cream suckers, pink cheeks
Colour every sucker cream and the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Green seaweed, sandy floor
Colour the seaweed green and the floor under the wavy line sandy.
Step 13: Purple octopus
Colour the head, body and all 8 arms purple, around the suckers and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
