How to Draw a Baby Sea Lion
Draw a baby sea lion in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and snout.
Step 1: Head and snout
Draw a big round head near the top. On the left, pull it out into a short, blunt snout.
Tip A pup has a big head for its body.
Step 2: Eye and nose
Draw a big egg eye with a black dot and a white shine. Add a black nose on the snout.
Tip Leave the eye white.
Step 3: Chubby body
From the head, draw a long back sloping down to the right. Curve under and back up the chest.
Step 4: Front flipper
From the shoulder draw a long flipper down to the ground. Bend its flat end forwards.
Tip The pup props itself up on its front flippers.
Step 5: Other flipper
In front of the chest, draw the other flipper peeking out, long and flat on the ground.
Step 6: Back flippers
At the tail end, draw 2 short flippers side by side, like a fish tail.
Tip Keep them short. A pup's back flippers are small.
Step 7: Smile and whiskers
Under the nose draw a long curved smile. Add 3 short whiskers on the snout.
Step 8: Small ear flap
At the back of the head, draw a tiny ear flap shaped like a leaf, pointing down.
Tip Sea lions have ear flaps. Seals do not.
Step 9: Chest patch
Start under the chin. Draw a curved line down the chest and stop at the front flipper.
Step 10: Sandy beach
Draw a straight line across the page for the beach, behind the pup.
Step 11: Tan chest, sandy beach
Colour the chest patch tan. Colour the beach a sandy yellow, around the pup.
Step 12: Brown fur
Colour the rest of the baby sea lion brown. Leave the eye white.
Tip Colour around the tan chest patch.
