How to Draw a Horse Eating Grass
Draw a horse eating grass in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the bottom left, draw a sideways peanut head: a big round cheek, the nose end pointing down.
Tip The nose end almost touches the ground. Leave lots of room on the right.
Step 2: Eye and nose
Draw 1 big eye. From the nose top, curve a line down to the chin. Add a nostril and smile.
Tip Give the eye a black dot and a white shine. Only 1 eye: we see the side.
Step 3: The ears
On top of the head, draw a pointed leaf ear with a smaller leaf inside and a second ear behind.
Tip Add a small lock of hair hanging down from under the front ear.
Step 4: The neck
Start behind the ears and curve the top line up to the right. From the jaw, draw the front line.
Tip The top line stops just past the middle of the paper. The front line curves down into the chest. The neck gets wider as it goes up.
Step 5: The body
From the neck, draw a big bean body: long back, round bottom, then the tummy up to the chest.
Tip Rub out the neck lines inside the body.
Step 6: The mane
Start behind the ears. Draw fat round locks along the top of the neck, up to the back.
Tip Each lock tucks behind the one above, like roof tiles.
Step 7: Two legs
Draw a ground line low down. Add a front leg under the chest and a back leg under the bottom.
Tip Rub out the body lines inside the legs. Each hoof is a flat little doorstop on the ground.
Step 8: The far legs
Draw 2 thinner legs peeking out from behind: one by the front leg, one by the back leg.
Tip Only draw the parts you can see.
Step 9: The tail
From the top of the bottom, draw a long flowing tail down to a point. Add 2 hair lines inside.
Tip Thick where it grows from the bottom, pointed at the tip.
Step 10: Grass
Draw 2 grass tufts on the ground: one under the nose and one by the tail.
Tip The tuft under the nose shows what the horse is doing: munching!
Step 11: Nose and ears
Go over your lines. Colour the nose patch cream and the ear inside peach. Leave the eye white.
Step 12: Colour it tan
Colour the head, ears, neck, body and legs tan, around the cream nose and peach ear inside.
Tip Leave the hair and hooves white for now.
Step 13: Mane, tail and hooves
Colour the mane and tail brown and the hooves dark grey.
Step 14: Green grass
Colour the grass tufts green.
