How to Draw a Spider Lily
Draw a spider lily in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle.
Step 1: The middle
A little above the middle of your paper draw a small circle, about as big as a pea.
Tip Leave lots of room all round it.
Step 2: The stem
Start under the circle. Draw 2 long lines down, a little apart and gently curved. Stop near the bottom.
Tip A spider lily has a tall bare stem with no leaves.
Step 3: Two top petals
Start on the circle. Draw a long thin petal up and out, curling to a pointy tip. Do both sides.
Tip Each petal is thin like a ribbon and curls back at the end.
Step 4: Two side petals
Under them draw 2 more curly petals. These reach out to the sides before they curl over.
Step 5: Two low petals
Draw the last 2 petals pointing sideways from the circle. Their tips curl down and back in.
Step 6: Tall stamens
From the circle draw a line straight up. Stop at an oval tip. Curve one more from each top petal.
Tip Stamens are the long thin whiskers that make it look like a spider.
Step 7: Side stamens
Start on the bend of each other petal. Draw a long line out, curving up to an oval tip.
Step 8: Low stamens
Start under each low petal, on the circle. Swoop a long line down, out and up to an oval tip.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Start left, draw a ground line under the stem, stop at the right. Add 2 grass tufts out wide.
Step 10: Yellow tips
Go over your lines. Colour all 9 little oval tips yellow.
Step 11: Red petals
Colour the middle and all 6 curly petals bright red.
Tip Red spider lilies bloom in autumn.
Step 12: Green stem
Colour the tall stem green, from the flower down to the ground. Your spider lily is done!
