How to Draw a Dust Devil
Draw a dust devil in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the dust column.
Step 1: The dust column
In the middle draw a tall funnel with 3 round puffs on top, getting narrow down to the foot.
Tip A dust devil is a spinning dust column, only as tall as a house.
Step 2: Dust at the foot
At the foot of the funnel draw a low dust cloud with 3 round bumps and a flat bottom.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Near the top of the funnel draw 2 round eyes, a little apart, with a shiny dot in each.
Step 4: A smile
Under the eyes draw a happy smile and a small oval cheek out at each side, keeping inside the funnel.
Step 5: Swirl stripes
Draw 4 curved stripes across the lower funnel, each from side to side and curving like a smile.
Tip The stripes show it spinning.
Step 6: Flying dust
Draw 2 little bumpy dust clouds on each side of the foot, floating in the air.
Step 7: Ground and rocks
Draw the ground line across the bottom of the page, with 2 small oval rocks on the left.
Step 8: A cactus
On the right draw a tall cactus on the ground, with an arm curving up from each side.
Step 9: Sun and swooshes
Draw a small sun with short rays top left. Add a curved swoosh on each side of the funnel.
Step 10: Sandy dust
Colour the funnel and all the dust sand colour, going round the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Yellow sun, pink cheeks
Colour the sun yellow and the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Green cactus, grey rocks
Colour the cactus green and the rocks grey. Go over all your lines and your dust devil is done!
