How to Draw an Obelisk

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw an obelisk in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: tall shaft.

Print

  1. Step 1: Tall shaft

Draw a very tall thin box in the middle of your paper. Make it a little narrower at the top.

  2. Step 2: Pointed tip

Draw a small triangle on top, from one top corner up to a point and down to the other corner.

  3. Step 3: First base

Under the shaft draw a flat box a little wider than the shaft, like a step.

  4. Step 4: Big base

Under that draw a wider, taller box for the bottom base, with a line across it near the bottom.

  5. Step 5: Carvings

Up the front draw little carvings, one above the other: a circle, a line, a zigzag, a bird, another line.

  6. Step 6: The ground

Draw the ground from each side of the big base out to the paper's edge.

  7. Step 7: Palm trunk

On the left, from the ground, draw a thin trunk curving up to the right, narrower at the top.

  8. Step 8: Palm leaves

From the top of the trunk draw 4 long pointed leaves: 2 arching up and 2 drooping down.

  9. Step 9: The sun

Draw a small round sun with 8 short rays in the top right, far from the obelisk.

  10. Step 10: Sun and sand

Colour the sun yellow. Colour the shaft, the tip and the palm trunk sand, going round the carvings.

  11. Step 11: Grey bases, green leaves

Colour the 2 bases stone grey and the palm leaves green. Your obelisk is done!
