How to Draw an Oasis
Draw an oasis in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the dune behind.
Step 1: The dune behind
Start at the left edge, below the middle. Draw a long sand hill across, stopping at the right edge.
Step 2: The pool
Low on the paper, right of the middle, draw a long flat wobbly oval pool, wider than your hand.
Tip The pool is what makes it an oasis: water in the desert.
Step 3: Three coconuts
High on the left draw 3 round coconuts in a bunch: 2 side by side, one lower in front.
Step 4: Two fronds
From the coconuts draw a long pointed leaf drooping down to the left. Draw another one curving up.
Step 5: Three more fronds
From the coconuts draw 3 more leaves: one up and right, one out right, one drooping down right.
Step 6: Leaf lines
Inside each frond draw one curved line down the middle, from near the coconuts, stopping short of the tip.
Step 7: The trunk
From low on the paper, left of the pool, draw 2 trunk lines, a thumb apart, up to the coconuts.
Tip The trunk leans a little. Add 3 short curves across it for rings.
Step 8: Ripples and ground
Draw 2 ripples on the pool. Rule a ground line below it, edge to edge. Add 2 stones.
Step 9: The sun
In the top right corner draw a round sun with eight short rays round it.
Step 10: Yellow sun, sand dune
Go over your lines, then colour the sun yellow and the dune sand yellow, around the pool and tree.
Step 11: Blue pool, green fronds
Colour the pool blue and all five fronds leaf green.
Step 12: Brown trunk, coconuts, stones
Colour the trunk wood brown, and the coconuts and the stones dark brown.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: an oasis, drawn by you.
