How to Draw a Nail
Draw a nail in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the nail head.
Step 1: The nail head
Near the top draw a wide flat oval. Add a thin curved edge under it, from end to end.
Step 2: The shank
From under the edge draw 2 long straight lines down to a little below the middle of the page.
Tip Keep them half as wide apart as the head.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Near the top of the shank draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and a shine in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile. Add a small oval cheek under each eye.
Step 5: The plank
Low on your paper, well under the shank, draw a long flat box nearly as wide as the page.
Step 6: The point
From the bottom of each shank line, slant in to the top of the plank. Stop a little apart.
Tip The sharp tip is hidden inside the wood.
Step 7: Wood grain
Inside the plank draw 3 short wavy lines for the grain, away from the nail.
Step 8: Floor and sparkles
Draw a floor line under the plank from well left to well right, and 2 small sparkles in the air.
Step 9: Yellow and pink
Go over your lines, then colour the sparkles yellow and the cheeks pink.
Step 10: Grey nail
Colour the whole nail grey, around the pink cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Brown plank
Colour the plank wood brown. Your nail is done!
