How to Draw a Balalaika
Draw a balalaika in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the triangle body.
Step 1: The triangle body
In the lower half draw a big triangle pointing up, with round corners and a tiny flat top.
Tip A balalaika is a Russian instrument with a triangle body and 3 strings.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Low in the wide part draw 2 big egg eyes, with a black dot and a white shine in each.
Tip Keep them low, to leave room above for the sound hole and the bridge.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile. Add a small oval cheek beside each end of it.
Step 4: The long neck
From each end of the flat top draw a long line straight up, and join them with a line across.
Step 5: Head and pegs
From the neck's top left draw a small round head, over to its top right. Add 3 peg dots.
Step 6: The sound hole
Just under the neck, in the narrow top of the body, draw a small round sound hole.
Step 7: The bridge
Between the sound hole and the eyes draw a small flat box for the bridge.
Step 8: Three strings
From the top of the neck draw 3 close lines straight down to the bridge, jumping over the sound hole.
Step 9: Three frets
Draw 3 short fret lines across the neck, from one side to the other, spaced out.
Step 10: Ground and notes
Draw a ground line along the flat bottom, from left to right, and a music note each side.
Step 11: Tan neck, pink cheeks
Colour the neck and the head tan, around the peg dots, and the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Wood body
Colour the body wood brown, going around the cheeks and the sound hole. Leave the eyes white.
Step 13: Black hole and notes
Colour the sound hole and the notes black. Go over your lines, and your balalaika is ready to play!
