How to Draw a Mule Deer
Draw a mule deer in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: soft egg head.
Step 1: Soft egg head
Near the top left draw a big egg head, wider at the top. Leave room above for antlers.
Tip The head is big: about half as long as the body.
Step 2: Huge mule ears
On each side of the head draw a huge leaf ear pointing out, with a small leaf inside.
Tip Mule deer are named after their big ears, like a mule's.
Step 3: Big eyes
On the middle of the head, a little to the left, draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots.
Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.
Step 4: Snout and smile
Under the left eye draw an oval snout poking past the head. From its black nose, draw into a smile.
Tip Rub out the head line inside the snout.
Step 5: Two antlers
On top of the head draw 2 thick antlers curving up to thin round tips.
Tip Each antler starts wide on the head and gets thinner.
Step 6: Antler forks
From the outside of each antler draw a branch up and out, like a Y. Add a twig to each.
Tip Mule deer antlers fork, then fork again.
Step 7: Neck and back
Start below the right ear. Draw the neck and a long back, and stop half way round the bottom.
Tip The line slopes down the neck, then runs almost flat.
Step 8: Front leg
Draw a ground line. From under the chin, draw the chest and a leg down to a hoof, then up.
Tip The leg is wide at the top and thin lower down. A short line across makes the hoof.
Step 9: Tummy and back leg
From the front leg draw the tummy. Then a round thigh down to a hoof and up to the bottom.
Tip The back leg bends back half way down.
Step 10: Far legs
Under the tummy draw 2 more slim legs peeking out, one behind each leg, with a hoof line across each.
Tip All 4 hooves stand on the ground line.
Step 11: Rump patch and tail
Curve a line from the back to the back leg. Beside it hang a thin tail with a line across.
Step 12: Cream and peach
Colour the snout, the rump patch and the tail cream, down to the line. Colour inside each ear peach.
Step 13: Colour it stone
Colour the deer stone grey, around the snout, rump patch and ear middles. Leave the eyes white.
Step 14: Brown and black
Colour the antlers brown. Colour the 4 hooves and the tip of the tail black. Your mule deer is done!
