How to Draw a Hercules Beetle
Draw a Hercules beetle in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a small head.
Step 1: A small head
On the left, halfway down, draw a small egg on its side for the head. Leave lots of room.
Tip A hercules beetle is mostly horns and shell: the head is tiny.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and white shine in each.
Step 3: A wide smile
Under the eyes, draw a wide open smile like a half moon.
Step 4: A long body
Behind the head, draw a long egg on its side, more than twice as long as the head.
Step 5: The giant top horn
From the top of the body, draw a huge horn over the head, curling down to a point, and back.
Tip The top horn is longer than the whole head.
Step 6: The lower horn
Start on the front of the head. Draw a shorter horn curving up to nearly touch the top horn, and back.
Tip Leave a little gap between the two tips, like tongs.
Step 7: Shell collar
Draw a curved line down across the body just behind the head, from the top edge to the bottom edge.
Step 8: Spots on the shell
On the back part of the body, draw 4 small round spots, spread out.
Step 9: Legs and the ground
Under the body, draw 3 bent legs, each with a knee and a small pointed foot. Add a ground line.
Tip Only 3 of the 6 legs show from the side.
Step 10: Pink cheeks, tan shell
Go over your lines. Colour a pink blush under each eye, and the shell tan around the 4 spots.
Step 11: Grey head, red mouth
Colour the head grey around the pink cheeks and the mouth, leaving the eyes white. Colour the mouth red.
Step 12: Slate horns, black spots
Colour the horns and legs slate grey, and the 4 spots black.
