How to Draw a Moth
Draw a moth in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Draw a big egg head in the middle, a bit high, wider than tall. Leave room each side for wings.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the head draw 2 big eggy eyes. Add a black dot and white shine in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Draw a wide U smile from eye to eye. Add a small round cheek under each eye.
Step 4: Feather antennae
Start on top of the head. Draw a thin line up and out to a dot. Add 4 comb teeth.
Tip Moth antennae look like little feathers or combs.
Step 5: A fat fuzzy body
Under the head draw a round fuzzy chest with soft bumps, then a teardrop tummy ending in a soft point.
Tip A moth's body is fatter and fuzzier than a butterfly's.
Step 6: Tummy stripes
Draw 3 smile curves across the tummy, each from side to side, smaller near the point.
Step 7: Big round top wings
From the chest draw a big round wing out and up, like a fat leaf, and back to the chest.
Tip Moth wings are rounder and softer than butterfly wings, with no corners.
Step 8: Round bottom wings
Under each top wing draw a smaller round wing out and down, from the tummy and back to it.
Step 9: Wing spots
On each top wing draw an eye spot, a circle with a smaller one inside. Dot each bottom wing.
Step 10: Cream body, pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the head and body cream. Colour the cheeks pink. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Tan wings, brown spots
Colour all 4 wings tan. Colour the spots and antenna tips brown, leaving the inner circles tan.
