How to Draw a Pintail Duck Flying
Draw a pintail duck flying in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
On the left, above the middle, draw a round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the body and the long tail.
Step 2: Slim bill
Start low on the head's front. Draw a slim bill to a round tip and back. Add a smile line.
Step 3: One big eye
Behind the bill, high on the head, draw a big round eye with a black dot and a white shine.
Step 4: Neck and body
Start on the back of the head. Draw a slim neck swelling into a plump body, round to the chin.
Tip The neck is about as long as the head, and the body is twice as long.
Step 5: Big raised wing
From the shoulder, sweep a wing up, back and down with 4 feather bumps. Rub out the back line inside.
Tip The wing starts inside the body, behind the neck. Add 3 short feather lines.
Step 6: The far wing
Start on the back before the big wing. Draw a thin far wing up. Stop on the big wing.
Step 7: Long pin tail
Start on top of the rump. Draw a long tail out to a sharp point, back to under the rump.
Tip Make the tail wide at the body and thin as a pin at the tip.
Step 8: Tucked webbed foot
Start under the tummy. Draw a short thick leg going back, widening to a webbed foot with 3 toe bumps.
Step 9: Puffy cloud
Below the duck on the left, draw a little cloud: 3 round puffs on top and a flat bottom.
Step 10: Grey wings
Go over your lines. Colour both wings grey. Leave the neck and body white like the paper.
Step 11: Brown head
Colour the head brown around the eye. Leave the eye white.
Step 12: Dark grey bill, foot
Colour the slim bill and the webbed foot dark grey.
Step 13: Black tail
Colour the long pin tail black. Leave the cloud white. Your pintail duck is flying!
