How to Draw a Monstera Leaf
Draw a monstera leaf in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: right side.
Step 1: Right side
Start at a tip near the top. Draw the right side with 3 deep V cuts, stop at a notch.
Tip Each cut is a thin V that stops before the middle, like the gaps between fingers.
Step 2: Left side
Start at the tip. Draw the left side the same way, 3 deep V cuts, and stop at the notch.
Tip Both sides meet at the tip and at the bottom notch.
Step 3: Holes in the leaf
Past the end of 3 cuts, near the middle, draw a long oval hole: up right, middle left, low right.
Tip Real monstera leaves have little windows in them.
Step 4: The middle vein
Start at the bottom notch. Draw one straight line up the middle of the leaf, stopping short of the tip.
Step 5: Side veins
From the middle vein draw a curved vein along each finger, stopping well short of the edge.
Tip 8 veins: one down the middle of every finger.
Step 6: The stalk
Start on the bottom notch. Draw a stalk of 2 lines curving down, stop a little way below the leaf.
Step 7: The pot rim
Under the stalk draw a wide flat box for the pot rim, so the stalk goes into it.
Step 8: Pot and ground
From the rim go down and in, across, and back up to it. Add a ground line under the pot.
Step 9: Green leaf
Go over your lines, then colour the leaf green, leaving the cuts and the 3 holes white.
Step 10: Leaf stalk, brown pot
Colour the stalk a lighter leaf green and the pot and its rim brown. Your monstera leaf is done!
