How to Draw a Marching Band
Draw a marching band in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and ears.
Step 1: Head and ears
Draw an egg head, narrower at the chin. Start on each side, draw a C ear, stop on the head.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 round eyes with a shine, a tiny nose and a wide smile.
Step 3: The tall hat
Start on the left by the eyebrows. Go up high, across the top, down to the right. Add a plume.
Step 4: Neck and jacket
Start under the chin with 2 neck lines. Draw a jacket down to the waist, ending at the other neck.
Tip Add 3 round buttons down the middle.
Step 5: The drum
Draw a wide oval over the belly, 2 sides down to a smile, and 2 straps from the shoulders.
Tip Add a hoop line near the top and bottom of the drum.
Step 6: Arms to the drum
From each shoulder draw a short sleeve out, then the arm bending down and in to the drum top.
Step 7: Fists and drumsticks
On each arm draw a mitten fist. From each fist draw a thin straight drumstick slanting down so they cross.
Step 8: Standing legs
Start under the drum. Draw 2 legs straight down, stopping near the bottom of your paper.
Step 9: Shoes and ground
Draw a shoe on each leg. Start far left, draw a ground line under both shoes, stop far right.
Step 10: Yellow plume
Go over your lines. Colour the plume and the 3 buttons yellow. Leave the drum white.
Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour 2 pink cheeks. Colour the face around them, the ears, neck, arms and hands peach. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Red jacket, navy trousers
Colour the jacket, sleeves and 2 drum hoop bands red, around the buttons. Colour the trousers navy.
Step 13: Black hat and shoes
Colour the hat and shoes black. Now strike up the band!
