How to Draw a Sad Face
Draw a sad face in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper draw a big soft egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Make it nearly two thirds of the page tall.
Step 2: 2 ears
Start each C ear on the head, bulge out, and stop lower down. Add a smaller C inside.
Step 3: Big eyes
Draw 2 big tall oval eyes, an eye apart. Put a big black dot low in each, looking down.
Step 4: Sad eyebrows
Above each eye draw a short eyebrow that slopes up toward the middle of the face.
Tip Inside ends up, outside ends down: worried eyebrows.
Step 5: Nose and wobbly mouth
Between the eyes draw a tiny U nose. Lower down draw a wobbly sad mouth, like a small wave.
Step 6: Hair cap
Start left on the head by the ear. Draw soft round tufts over the top, stopping on the right.
Tip Soft bumps like little clouds, not spikes.
Step 7: Hairline
Start at the same left point. Curve across the forehead above the eyebrows and stop at the right point.
Step 8: Neck and shirt
Draw 2 neck lines under the chin, then slope shoulders down to a flat bottom edge. Add a U collar.
Tip Stop each shoulder a thumb in from the paper edge.
Step 9: Peach skin
Colour the face, the ears and the neck peach. Keep the eyes white.
Step 10: Ginger hair
Colour the hair ginger.
Step 11: Sky blue shirt
Colour the shirt sky blue. Your sad face is done.

Your finished drawing
