How to Draw a Michigan Map

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a michigan map in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the mitten's side.

Print

  1. Step 1: The mitten's side

Start at the bottom, left of the middle. Draw a wavy line up, then slant right. Stop at a point.

Tip The big bottom part of Michigan looks like a mitten.

  2. Step 2: The little finger

Carry on from the point. Dip down into a V, then climb up to the right. Stop at the top.

  3. Step 3: The mitten's top

Carry on from the top. Slant down to the right, then curve down and slant back in. Stop there.

  4. Step 4: The thumb

Carry on from there. Draw a thumb sticking up, then go down the right side. Stop at the bottom.

  5. Step 5: The bottom edge

Carry on from there. Draw a straight line to the left. Stop where your first line began.

  6. Step 6: The horn

Start high on the left. Draw up to the right, make a pointed horn and come back down. Stop there.

Tip Michigan has 2 big parts with water between them.

  7. Step 7: The top coast

Carry on from there. Draw a bumpy coast right, round a point, then slant down. Stop above the mitten.

  8. Step 8: The lower coast

Carry on from there. Draw a bumpy line back to the left, then slant down to a point.

Tip Leave a gap of water above the mitten's tip.

  9. Step 9: Close the top part

Carry on from the point. Draw up a little, then a long straight line left. Stop at the horn's start.

  10. Step 10: A thin island

Above the horn, draw a long thin island slanting up to the right.

  11. Step 11: The capital

Low down in the mitten, draw a small circle for the capital city, Lansing.

  12. Step 12: Green land

Go over your lines. Colour both big parts and the thin island green, around the little circle.

  13. Step 13: Red capital

Colour the little circle red for the capital. Your map of Michigan is done!
