13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a metronome in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pyramid.

Print

  1. Step 1: The pyramid

In the middle draw a tall pyramid with a narrow flat top, sides sloping out to a wide bottom.

Tip A metronome ticks and swings its arm to keep musicians in time.

  2. Step 2: Two eyes

Below the middle of the pyramid draw 2 round eyes side by side. Colour a black dot in each.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and an oval cheek beside each end of the smile.

  4. Step 4: The base

Under the pyramid draw a low wide block on the ground for the base, a little wider than the pyramid.

  5. Step 5: The scale panel

Above the face draw a tall narrow panel up the middle, with short tick lines down its right side.

  6. Step 6: The swinging arm

From a round pivot at the panel's bottom draw 2 close lines slanting up left, ending near the panel's top.

  7. Step 7: The weight

Partway up the arm draw a small slanted square sitting on the arm for the sliding weight.

  8. Step 8: Winding key

On the right draw a short line out from the pyramid's edge, with a small circle on the end.

  9. Step 9: Swing lines

Above each top corner draw a short curved swing line, starting and stopping in the air.

  10. Step 10: Ground

Draw a ground line under the base from left to right.

  11. Step 11: Pink cheeks

Colour the cheeks pink. Tick, tock!

  12. Step 12: Cream panel, grey arm

Colour the panel cream and the arm, pivot, weight and key grey.

  13. Step 13: Wood body

Go over your lines. Colour the pyramid wood brown around the face, panel and pivot, and the base dark brown.

    Tip Keep the eyes white.
