How to Draw a 3D Printer
Draw a 3D printer in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the frame.
Step 1: The frame
Draw a big doorway frame filling your paper: a flat top bar, with a tall post down from each end.
Step 2: Base and bed
Across the posts' bottoms draw a long flat base. Add a thin bed box between the posts, just above it.
Tip The printer builds things on the bed.
Step 3: The little figure
On the bed draw a figure: a round head with 2 big eyes a little apart, on a rounded body.
Tip A 3D printer builds a figure one thin layer at a time.
Step 4: Dots and smile
In each eye draw a black dot with a white shine. Under the eyes draw a small U smile.
Step 5: The rail
Between the posts, a little below the top, draw a flat rail bar. The print head slides on it.
Step 6: The print head
On the rail's middle draw a tall box print head, above and below it. Add a tiny nozzle underneath.
Tip The nozzle points down, just above the figure's head.
Step 7: Layer lines
Draw two lines across the figure's body for the printed layers.
Step 8: The spool
Hang a spool circle under the top bar on the right, with a tiny circle in its middle.
Step 9: The thread
From the spool's left side draw a curvy line to the top of the print head, for the plastic thread.
Step 10: The ground
Along the base's bottom draw a ground line, starting just left of the base and stopping just right of it.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, grey bed
Go over your lines. Colour 2 pink cheeks under the eyes. Colour the bed and the nozzle light grey.
Step 12: Orange figure, red head
Colour the figure and spool orange, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Colour the print head red.
Step 13: Slate frame
Colour the posts, top bar, rail and base slate grey, around the print head.

Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a 3D printer, drawn by you.
