How to Draw a Mayan Calendar
Draw a mayan calendar in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big circle.
Step 1: The big circle
Draw a big circle that fills most of your paper. Everything goes inside it.
Tip Draw round a plate if you have one.
Step 2: The middle circle
In the very middle of the big circle draw a small circle. This is the sun's face.
Tip Leave lots of room round it for the rings.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the small circle draw 2 egg eyes side by side. Add a black dot with a shine in each.
Step 4: A smile
Leave a gap under the eyes, then draw a wide U smile from under one eye to the other.
Step 5: The first ring
Draw a bigger circle around the face. Leave the same gap all the way round.
Step 6: 4 sun rays
Draw 4 pointy rays like a plus sign. Start each on the face and stop its point on the ring.
Tip Each ray is a triangle with its flat side on the face.
Step 7: 4 more rays
Draw 4 more rays in the gaps, from the face out to the ring. Now 8 rays go all round.
Step 8: The second ring
Draw another circle halfway between the first ring and the big circle.
Step 9: Little boxes
Past each ray tip draw 2 short lines. Start on the first ring, stop on the second. 8 boxes!
Tip Make the boxes as wide as the spaces between them.
Step 10: Pointers and dots
Draw 4 pointy triangles from the second ring out to the edge: top, bottom, left, right. Add 4 dots between.
Tip The 4 pointers line up with the first 4 rays.
Step 11: Yellow and light brown
Colour the face yellow but leave the eyes white. Colour light brown round the rays and between the boxes.
Step 12: Orange and teal
Colour the 8 rays and 4 pointers orange. Colour the 8 boxes and 4 dots teal.
Tip Teal is a blue-green. Use blue and green together if you have no teal.
Step 13: Brown rim
Go over your lines. Colour the outside ring brown, around the pointers and dots. Your Mayan calendar is done!
