How to Draw a Scallop Pattern

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a scallop pattern in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the square.

Print

  1. Step 1: The square

In the middle of your paper draw a big square with soft corners, nearly as big as your page.

  2. Step 2: The top row

Along the top edge draw a row of little Us. Each starts on the edge and stops back on it.

Tip Scallops are rows of half circles, like fish scales or roof tiles.

  3. Step 3: The second row

Under them draw another row, shifted half a scallop: each starts at one scallop's bottom and stops at the next.

  4. Step 4: The third row

Draw the third row lined up under the first, each scallop starting and stopping at the bottoms above.

  5. Step 5: The fourth row

Draw the fourth row lined up under the second, each scallop starting and stopping at the bottoms above.

  6. Step 6: The last rows

Finish with 2 more rows near the bottom, each scallop starting and stopping at the bottoms of the row above.

  7. Step 7: Sparkles

Draw 4 sparkle stars off the corners of the square.

  8. Step 8: Yellow sparkles

Go over your lines, then colour the 4 sparkles yellow.

  9. Step 9: Sky scallops

Colour the second, fourth and sixth rows sky blue.

  10. Step 10: Teal scallops

Colour the other rows and the half scallops at the bottom teal. Your scallop pattern is done!
