How to Draw a Mardi Gras Float

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a mardi gras float in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: float box.

Print

  1. Step 1: Float box

Across the lower half draw a long box. Add a thin board along its top, a little wider.

Tip A parade float is a decorated trailer that rolls down the street.

  2. Step 2: Wheels and ground

Under the box draw 2 big wheels, each with a small circle inside. Draw a ground line below.

  3. Step 3: The stage

On the middle of the board draw a tall box, half as wide. This is the stage.

  4. Step 4: Giant mask

Over the top of the stage draw a wide mask with a dip on top and tips sweeping up.

Tip Rub out the stage lines inside the mask.

  5. Step 5: Eye holes

Inside the mask draw a big sideways oval eye hole on each side.

  6. Step 6: Two eyes

Peeking through each hole draw an egg eye with a black dot and a white shine.

  7. Step 7: Three feathers

Behind the top of the mask draw 3 tall feathers with round tops: one straight up, one leaning each way.

  8. Step 8: Quills

Down the middle of each feather draw a line. Start near the top and stop on the mask.

  9. Step 9: String of flags

Under the board draw a sagging string from the left side to the right. Hang 5 triangle flags.

  10. Step 10: Gold mask

Colour the mask, the board, 3 flags and the wheel middles yellow. Leave the eye holes white.

  11. Step 11: Green stage

Colour the stage, the 2 side feathers, the other 2 flags and the wheels green.

  12. Step 12: Purple float

Colour the float box purple, around the flags. Colour the middle feather purple too.

Tip Purple, green and gold are the Mardi Gras colours.
