How to Draw a Lupine
Draw a lupine in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the stalk.
Step 1: The stalk
From near the bottom middle, draw a tall gently bending stalk up to the top third, wider at the bottom.
Step 2: Bottom florets
Above the middle draw a row of 3 little pea flowers across the stalk, each like a tiny heart.
Tip The stalk runs behind the middle flower.
Step 3: Next two rows
Above them draw a row of 2 flowers in the gaps, then a row of 3 again, a little narrower.
Step 4: Pointed top
Finish with 3 rows of 2, each narrower, and one flower on top, so the spike comes to a point.
Step 5: Leaf on the left
Below the spike, grow a short leaf stalk out to the left, with 4 pointed leaflets fanning from its end.
Tip Lupine leaves look like little green hands.
Step 6: Leaf on the right
Do the same lower down on the right: a short stalk out and 4 leaflets fanning from its end.
Step 7: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line across, under the stalk. Flick up 2 grass blades each side, a little away from it.
Step 8: Green stalk
Go over your lines. Colour the stalk and the 2 leaf stalks leaf green.
Step 9: Green leaflets
Colour all the leaflets leaf green too.
Step 10: Purple bottom
Colour the bottom 3 rows of pea flowers purple.
Step 11: Purple top
Colour the rest of the spike purple, and your lupine is done!
