How to Draw a Beech Leaf
Draw a beech leaf in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the right half.
Step 1: The right half
Start at a point near the top. Draw a smooth curve bowing out to the right, down to a point.
Tip Tilt the leaf a little, like it fell on a table.
Step 2: The left half
Start at the bottom point. Draw a matching curve up the left side, ending at the sharp top point.
Step 3: The stem
Start at the bottom point. Draw a short stem down left that gets thinner. Stop about a thumb away.
Step 4: The middle vein
Start where the stem joins the leaf. Draw one straight vein up the middle, stopping just short of the top.
Step 5: Veins on the left
From the middle vein draw 5 veins on the left half, slanting up towards the tip, stopping before the edge.
Step 6: Veins on the right
Draw 5 more veins on the right half, slanting up towards the tip too, stopping before the edge.
Step 7: A soft shadow
Draw the leaf shape again a little lower, so a thin shadow peeks out below both sides.
Step 8: Orange leaf
Colour the big leaf orange, right to the edge.
Step 9: Grey shadow
Colour the thin shadow light grey, right up to the leaf.
Step 10: Brown stem
Colour the stem brown. Go over your lines and you are done!
