How to Draw a Mountain Laurel

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a mountain laurel in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big flower.

Print

  1. Step 1: The big flower

Near the top of your paper draw a flower like a round star with 5 soft points, one pointing up.

Tip A mountain laurel flower is one little cup, not 5 loose petals.

  2. Step 2: Middle and dots

Draw a small circle in the middle. Around it draw 5 tiny red dots, one toward each point.

  3. Step 3: Five more dots

Draw 5 more red dots, one in each gap, to finish a ring of 10 dots.

Tip The ring of dark dots is how you spot a mountain laurel.

  4. Step 4: The twig

Start under the big flower. Draw a twig of 2 close lines down to near the bottom of the paper.

  5. Step 5: Left flower

From the twig, draw a short stalk to the left. On its end draw a smaller flower with a middle.

Tip Tuck one point behind the big flower.

  6. Step 6: Right flower

Draw a short stalk out to the right with another small flower and its middle on the end.

  7. Step 7: Left ring

In the left flower, draw a ring of 10 tiny red dots around the middle.

  8. Step 8: Right ring

In the right flower, draw a ring of 10 tiny red dots around the middle too.

  9. Step 9: Two leaves

From the twig draw a pointed leaf on the left, a lower one on the right, each with a vein.

  10. Step 10: Ground and grass

Draw a long ground line through the bottom of the twig. Add 2 grass blades on each side.

  11. Step 11: Yellow middles

Colour the 3 little middles yellow.

  12. Step 12: Pink flowers

Colour the 3 flowers pink, around the yellow middles and the red dots.

  13. Step 13: Brown twig, green leaves

Colour the twig brown and both leaves green. Go over your lines and your mountain laurel is done!
