How to Draw a Lunar New Year Lantern Street
Draw a Lunar New Year lantern street in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: 2 posts.
Step 1: 2 posts
Near each side of your paper draw a tall thin post from near the bottom to near the top.
Tip Red lanterns are hung across the streets for Lunar New Year.
Step 2: The string
High up, start on the left post. Draw a string sagging gently through the middle, stop on the right post.
Step 3: 3 lanterns
Hang 3 round lanterns from the string, one in the middle and one each side, with caps and bases.
Step 4: Ribs
On each lantern draw 2 curved rib lines down the body, one near each side, bowing outward.
Step 5: Tassels
Under each base draw a short cord and a little tassel with a wavy bottom and 2 lines inside.
Step 6: Banners
On each post draw a tall thin banner hanging beside it. Draw a diamond and a ring on each.
Step 7: The ground
Draw the ground line from edge to edge under the posts.
Step 8: Yellow caps and tassels
Go over your lines. Colour the caps, bases and tassels of the lanterns yellow.
Step 9: Wood posts
Colour the 2 posts and their caps wood brown.
Step 10: Red lanterns and banners
Colour the 3 lanterns and 2 banners red, around the rib lines and marks. Your lantern street is done!
