How to Draw a Fireplace with Stockings

Step 1: The mantel shelf

Near the top of your paper draw a long thin rectangle right across, for the mantel shelf.

Step 2: The fireplace

Under the shelf draw a big rectangle hanging down, a little narrower than the shelf, almost to the bottom.

Tip The shelf sticks out past the fireplace on both sides.

Step 3: The fire opening

Inside the fireplace draw an arch: from the bottom edge up, over like a rainbow, and down to the bottom.

Step 4: Hearth and floor

Under the fireplace draw a thin rectangle as wide as the shelf: the hearth. Add a floor line below.

Step 5: Two logs

Low inside the opening draw 2 fat sausage logs crossing each other like an X.

Step 6: The flame

From the logs draw a big pointy teardrop flame reaching up, with a wobbly flicker. Add a smaller flame inside.

Step 7: Two stockings

Under each end of the shelf draw a stocking: a small cuff, then a sock going down and bending right.

Tip Both stockings hang off the shelf, so they start on it.

Step 8: Candle on the shelf

On the shelf draw a small tall candle with a teardrop flame. Add a sparkle in each top corner.

Step 9: Bricks

Draw short brick lines on the fireplace around the opening: a few each side and a few across the top.

Step 10: Orange and yellow fire

Colour the big flame orange, the small flame inside it yellow, and the candle flame yellow too.

Step 11: Red stockings

Colour the stockings red with white cuffs, and the candle white.

Step 12: Brown logs, yellow sparkles

Colour the logs brown and the sparkles yellow.

Step 13: Brown bricks, grey opening

Colour the fireplace, hearth and shelf brown around the stockings, the opening grey around the fire. Go over your lines.
