How to Draw Lettuce
Draw lettuce in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the leafy middle.
Step 1: The leafy middle
In the middle draw a loose round head as big as your fist, with soft ruffly bumps across the top.
Tip Lettuce is loose and ruffly: uneven bumps, not a neat ball.
Step 2: A leaf in front
Start on the ball's left, below the middle. Draw 6 even bumps across, then round the bottom to the start.
Step 3: Left leaf
Start near the ball's top left. Draw 4 bumps down the outside, tuck under the cup, back to the start.
Step 4: Right leaf
Same on the right: start near the top right, 4 bumps down, tuck under the cup, back to the start.
Step 5: Veins on the front
On the cup leaf draw one vein straight up from the bottom to under the bumps, with 2 short branches.
Step 6: Veins on the sides
On each side leaf draw one long bowed vein down its middle, from near the top to near the bottom.
Step 7: Little side veins
From each long vein draw 2 short branch lines out towards the middle of a bump, stopping short.
Step 8: Inner leaves
From the front leaf's bumpy top draw 2 long curves up the middle, bowing apart, stopping below the top.
Step 9: The ground
Draw a ground line under the lettuce, just touching it, from far left to far right.
Step 10: Light green middle
Go over your lines, then colour the ruffly middle light green.
Step 11: Green outer leaves
Colour the 3 big outer leaves green, right up to the light green middle. Your lettuce is done!
