How to Draw a Leonberger

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a leonberger in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw a big soft egg for the head, fuller at the cheeks.

Tip Leave room underneath for the mane, body and legs.

  2. Step 2: Floppy ears

Start near the top left of the head. Draw a soft ear hanging down, back to the head.

Tip Both ears hang to the same height.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Just above the middle of the head draw 2 eggy eyes. Colour a big black dot in each.

  4. Step 4: Muzzle and nose

Under the eyes draw a big wide oval reaching the chin. Add a black triangle nose on top.

Tip This oval is the dark mask of a Leonberger.

  5. Step 5: Smile and tongue

From the nose tip draw a short line down to a little w smile. Hang a small tongue under it.

  6. Step 6: Fluffy mane

Start at the left cheek. Draw 7 big fluffy bumps down under the chin and up to the right cheek.

Tip A Leonberger has a thick ruff like a lion, so make the bumps big and soft.

  7. Step 7: The body

Start at the side of the mane and draw a C down low. Do the right, then join the ends.

Tip This is a huge dog: make the body wide and round.

  8. Step 8: Front legs

From under the mane draw 2 long U legs down to round paws. Add 2 toe lines on each.

  9. Step 9: Back paws and ground

Draw the ground line and a hill paw at each corner of the body, with 2 toe lines.

  10. Step 10: Bushy tail

Start on the right of the body. Draw a fat tail curving down to the ground, and back.

Tip Keep it thick all the way, with a soft round tip.

  11. Step 11: Tan coat, pink tongue

Colour the head around the big oval, the body, legs, paws and tail tan. Colour the tongue pink.

Tip Leave the eyes, the big oval and the mane white for now.

  12. Step 12: Ginger mane

Colour the whole fluffy mane ginger orange, like a lion.

  13. Step 13: Brown ears and mask

Colour both ears and the big oval dark brown, going around the pink tongue.

Tip The dark face mask is how you spot a Leonberger.
