How to Draw an Ant
Draw an ant in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper draw a big sideways egg for the head, with round cheeks.
Tip An ant is 3 beads in a row: big head, small middle, big bottom.
Step 2: Bent feelers
Start on top of the head. Draw 2 feelers up, each bent like an elbow, ending in a ball.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the head draw 2 big egg eyes. Add big black dots with white specks.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a line across to the right eye, with a wide U below. Add cheeks.
Step 5: The middle bead
Start on the chin left of the middle. Draw a small ball hanging under the head, back to the chin.
Tip Its top is hidden behind the head.
Step 6: The big bottom bead
Start low on the middle bead. Draw a big round egg hanging under it, almost as wide as the head.
Step 7: Two stripes
Start low on the left of the bottom bead. Draw a smile line across to the right. Add another below.
Step 8: Front legs
Start high on the middle bead. Draw a thigh up to a knee, then a shin down to a foot.
Tip Each leg is fat at the bead and thin at the foot, bent like a boomerang.
Step 9: Middle legs
Start under the front leg, on the middle bead. Draw a thigh out, then a shin down to a foot.
Step 10: Back legs
Start low on the middle bead. Draw a thigh down and out, then a shin to a foot. 6 legs!
Step 11: Pink cheeks, red mouth
Colour the cheeks pink and the open mouth red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Brown ant
Colour the head, both beads, 6 legs and feeler balls brown, around the eyes, cheeks and mouth. Done!
