How to Draw a Vanilla Orchid
Draw a vanilla orchid in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the vine.
Step 1: The vine
From the bottom left, draw a vine curving up to the top right, getting thinner as it climbs.
Tip Vanilla pods come from an orchid vine: the flowers turn into bean pods.
Step 2: The flower
Halfway up, right of the vine, draw a star of 5 pointed petals, 1 up, 2 out and 2 down.
Step 3: The lip
From the flower's middle hang a trumpet lip down, flaring out to a wavy mouth, with a small oval inside.
Step 4: Flower stalk
Join the flower to the vine with a slim 2-line stalk, from the vine's edge to the flower's middle.
Step 5: Bean pods
Lower down, from a tiny stalk on the vine, hang 3 slim round-topped pods fanning apart, the middle one longest.
Step 6: Leaves
Draw 4 pointed leaves on the vine, 1 low, 1 above the pods, 2 at the top.
Step 7: Leaf veins
Start on the vine end of each leaf. Draw 1 vein, stopping near the tip.
Step 8: The ground
Draw a long ground line along the foot of the vine, from far left to far right.
Step 9: Pale green flower
Colour the throat yellow, then the petals and lip a pale leaf green around it.
Step 10: Green vine and leaves
Colour the vine, stalks and leaves a darker green.
Step 11: Brown pods
Colour the 3 pods brown and go over your lines. Your vanilla orchid is done!
