How to Draw a Ladybug Life Cycle

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a ladybug life cycle in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a leaf.

Print

  1. Step 1: A leaf

At the top draw a wide leaf, pointed at both ends. Add a stalk and a line inside each point.

Tip Leave lots of room below: three more pictures go in a ring.

  2. Step 2: Tiny eggs

On the middle of the leaf draw 4 tiny upright ovals side by side, leaning apart like a fan.

Tip A ladybug lays her yellow eggs on a leaf.

  3. Step 3: The larva

On the right draw a long bumpy body, wide near the top and thin at the bottom.

Tip Count 7 bumps down each side.

  4. Step 4: Head and legs

Draw a small round head on top. From each side, near the head, draw 3 short bent legs.

  5. Step 5: Body stripes

Draw 6 straight lines across the body, each from a dip on the left to a dip on the right.

  6. Step 6: Second leaf

At the bottom of your paper draw another wide pointed leaf, just like the first.

  7. Step 7: The pupa

On this leaf draw an egg shape with a narrow bottom. Add 2 curved stripes across it.

Tip Inside the pupa the larva turns into a ladybug.

  8. Step 8: The ladybug

On the left draw a big round body. Draw a small half circle on top for the head.

  9. Step 9: Wings and spots

Draw a line down the middle of the body. Draw 2 big round spots on each wing.

  10. Step 10: Legs and feelers

From each side of the body draw 3 short bent legs. Add 2 short feelers on the head.

  11. Step 11: Arrows around

Draw 4 curved arrows round the ring: eggs to larva, larva to pupa, pupa to ladybug, ladybug to eggs.

Tip Each arrow ends in a little V.

  12. Step 12: Yellow and orange

Colour the eggs yellow and the pupa orange. Dab 4 orange spots on the larva, 2 down each side.

  13. Step 13: Green and grey

Colour both leaves green, around the eggs and the pupa. Colour the larva dark grey, around its orange spots.

  14. Step 14: Red and black

Colour the ladybug's wings red, around the spots. Then colour the head and the 4 spots black.
