How to Draw a Tegu

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a tegu in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

On the left, start at the neck. Draw a loaf head round a blunt snout, and stop under the jaw.

Tip That heavy jaw hanging low at the back is the tegu's face.

  2. Step 2: Eye, grin and nostril

Draw a round eye up high. Add a nostril dot, and a smile from the snout to under the eye.

  3. Step 3: Long low body

From the neck, draw a long low back, round a soft bottom, and along the tummy. Stop at the jaw.

Tip A long low sausage flowing out of the head; the back is almost flat.

  4. Step 4: Two near legs

Under the chest, draw a short leg, elbow bent back. Under the hips, draw one with its knee bent forward.

Tip Legs are wide at the body and narrow at the ankle, with a flat foot pointing forward.

  5. Step 5: Two far legs

Just behind each near leg, draw the far leg peeking out: a thin strip down to its heel.

  6. Step 6: The ground

Draw one long ground line under all the feet. Add a flat pebble by the head.

  7. Step 7: Long thick tail

From the hips, sweep a thick tail down along the ground, round the tip, and back to the tummy.

  8. Step 8: Bands across the back

Between the legs, draw 3 wide bands across the body, back to tummy. Add 3 smaller bands across the tail.

Tip A tegu is black with pale bands, like stripes on a sock.

  9. Step 9: Toes

On each near foot, draw 2 short lines up from the ground to split it into 3 toes.

  10. Step 10: Cream bands

Colour all the bands across the back and tail cream.

  11. Step 11: Colour it slate

Colour the head, body, tail and far legs slate grey, around the bands. Leave the eye white.

  12. Step 12: Slate legs, grey pebble

Colour the 2 near legs slate grey too, and the little pebble grey. Your tegu is done!
