How to Draw a Kid Reading a Book
Draw a kid reading a book in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top of your paper, in the middle, draw an egg for the head, narrower at the chin.
Tip Leave the lower half of the page for the body and the crossed legs.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 eyes looking down, a nose and a smile. Start a C ear each side, ending on the head.
Step 3: Hair and pigtails
Start on the left of the head. Draw round tufts over the top, stop on the right. Add pigtails.
Step 4: Neck and T-shirt
Draw 2 neck lines. From the left one draw a T-shirt, up to the right one. Add a V collar.
Step 5: The open book
In front of the tummy draw an open book: 2 covers, a middle line and a title box.
Step 6: Arms and mitten hands
From each sleeve draw an arm down to the book's edge. Draw a round mitten on each, over the book.
Step 7: The front leg
From under the left hand draw a round knee, a shin across to the right, then back to the book.
Tip Sitting criss-cross: the shin comes back across in front.
Step 8: The far leg
From under the right hand draw the other leg out to a round knee. Stop at the front leg.
Step 9: Shoes and floor
Draw a shoe peeking out under each knee, toe pointing out. Draw the floor line from left to right underneath.
Step 10: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour a pink circle on each cheek, then the face, neck, ears, arms and hands peach around them.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Red T-shirt, green book
Colour the T-shirt red. Colour the book green around the hands, leaving the title box white.
Step 12: Brown hair, blue trousers
Colour the hair and pigtails brown, and the folded legs blue, around the ears, book and hands.
Step 13: Navy shoes
Colour the shoes navy. Go over your lines and your reading kid is lost in the story!
