How to Draw a Kapok Tree

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a kapok tree in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the tall trunk.

Print

  1. Step 1: The tall trunk

Start low in the middle, draw a very tall upside-down U for the trunk, and stop level with the start.

Tip Kapok trees are rainforest giants, with roots like rocket fins.

  2. Step 2: Buttress roots

From each end of the trunk, sweep a curve out and down to the ground, like a big flat fin.

  3. Step 3: The crown

At the very top of the trunk draw a small wide flat crown with soft bumps, like a flat cloud.

  4. Step 4: Two branches

From high on the trunk draw a thick branch up and out each side, stopping at the crown.

  5. Step 5: Bark lines

On the trunk draw 2 short bark lines, one higher on the left and one lower on the right.

  6. Step 6: A knot

Low on the trunk, above the fins, draw a small oval knot.

  7. Step 7: Tiny trees

Draw a tiny tree each side: a bumpy round crown, then a trunk from the crown down to the ground.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw the ground line from edge to edge through the bottom of the fins and the tiny trees.

  9. Step 9: Green crowns

Go over your lines, then colour the tiny crowns light green and the big crown dark green.

  10. Step 10: Wood trunk

Colour the trunk, fins, branches and tiny trunks wood brown, and your kapok tree is done!
