How to Draw Kale
Draw kale in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: middle leaf.
Step 1: Middle leaf
In the middle draw a tall leaf: a round top and 4 wavy lobes each side, all with curly bumps.
Tip Make the dips between the lobes cut in deep, like real kale.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the top half of the leaf draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a big black dot in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and a small oval cheek below each eye.
Step 4: Middle stalk
From a thin tip under the smile draw a stalk down out of the leaf, with a flat cut end.
Tip Rub out the bottom of the leaf where it crosses the stalk.
Step 5: Bottom veins
From the stalk draw a short vein slanting up into each bottom lobe, one each side. Stop before the edge.
Step 6: Top veins
Just above, draw a vein slanting up into the next lobe on each side. Stop before the edge.
Step 7: Side leaves
Draw a smaller curly leaf peeking out each side, its tip leaning out, its bottom tucked behind the middle leaf.
Step 8: Side stalks
From under the middle leaf draw a stalk each side, slanting in behind the middle stalk to its flat end.
Step 9: The band
Low down draw a small band across all 3 stalks, like a little belt.
Tip Rub out the stalk lines inside the band.
Step 10: The ground
Draw the ground line from far left to far right, along the flat ends of the stalks.
Step 11: Pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the cheeks pink.
Step 12: Stalks and band
Colour the 3 stalks light green, then colour the band purple.
Step 13: Dark green leaves
Colour the 3 leaves dark green, around the stalks and cheeks. Leave the eyes white, and your kale is done!
