How to Draw a Japanese House
Draw a Japanese house in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the wide roof.
Step 1: The wide roof
Above the middle draw a long low roof, slanting sides and a flat top. Add a thin ridge box.
Step 2: The walls
Start under the roof, well in from the left. Draw a wide box down and across, stopping under the roof.
Step 3: The porch
Under the walls draw a long thin box for the porch, sticking out past both sides.
Step 4: Sliding doors
Draw a wide box on the wall for the sliding doors. Add lines down and across to make paper squares.
Step 5: Paper windows
Draw a square window on each side of the doors, with a line across and 2 down for little squares.
Step 6: Railings and ground
Draw 2 posts up from each porch end, and 2 rails across to the wall. Add a long ground line.
Step 7: A stone lantern
On the left stack a stone lantern, a base, thick post, box with a window, wide cap and knob.
Step 8: A little tree
On the right draw a big round bumpy treetop, then 2 short trunk lines from the ground up to it.
Step 9: The sun
Draw a round sun with 8 short rays in the top left.
Step 10: Yellow sun, cream walls
Colour the sun yellow and the walls cream, going around the doors and windows.
Step 11: Green tree, wooden porch
Colour the treetop green, then the porch and the tree trunk wood brown.
Step 12: Stone lantern, slate roof
Colour the lantern stone grey around its window, and the roof slate grey. Your Japanese house is done!
