How to Draw a Dungeon

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a dungeon in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the back wall.

Print

  1. Step 1: The back wall

Draw a big box for the stone wall, wider than tall. Leave room below it for the floor.

Tip Use a ruler if you like: dungeon walls are straight.

  2. Step 2: The floor

Start at the wall's bottom left corner. Slant down and out, go straight across, and stop at the right corner.

Tip The floor gets wider as it comes toward you.

  3. Step 3: The arched door

In the middle draw a tall arch standing on the wall's bottom line. Draw a smaller arch inside it.

Tip Keep the same gap between the 2 arches all the way round.

  4. Step 4: The lock

In the middle of the doorway draw a small box. Add a black keyhole: a dot with a tail.

  5. Step 5: Iron bars

Draw 4 bars straight down from the arch to the floor and 1 bar across. Stop at the lock.

Tip Space the bars evenly, like a gate.

  6. Step 6: Two torches

On each side of the arch draw a small cup with a long pointed handle hanging below it.

  7. Step 7: Flames

On top of each cup draw a tall pointed flame. Draw a small flame inside it.

Tip Start and stop each flame on the rim of the cup.

  8. Step 8: Chains

Under each torch draw a small ring, 2 oval links hanging from it, and a bigger ring at the end.

Tip Make each link touch the next one, like a real chain.

  9. Step 9: Stone blocks

Draw a few stone blocks on the wall. Draw short lines across the rim of the arch.

  10. Step 10: Floor slabs

Draw 1 line across the middle of the floor. Add 5 short lines to make big stone slabs.

  11. Step 11: Fire and lock

Colour the small flames and the lock yellow. Colour the big flames orange around them.

  12. Step 12: Grey stone

Colour the wall light grey, going round the door and torches. Colour the arch rim and floor darker grey.

  13. Step 13: Dark doorway

Colour the doorway and the cups dark grey and the handles brown. Your dungeon is done!
