How to Draw an Island
Draw an island in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the sandy mound.
Step 1: The sandy mound
Start low on the left. Draw a hill up and over like a turtle's back. End level on the right.
Step 2: Three coconuts
Above the left of the mound, draw 3 round coconuts: 2 side by side and 1 lower in front.
Step 3: Two fronds
From the coconuts, draw a pointy leaf drooping down left, and one arching up and over to the left.
Step 4: Three more fronds
From the coconuts, draw 3 more leaves: 1 arching over the top, 1 arching right, 1 drooping down right.
Step 5: Leaf lines
Inside each leaf, draw 1 curved line down the middle. Start near the coconuts and stop short of the tip.
Step 6: The trunk
Start on the mound, left of the middle. Draw 2 lines leaning up and left, ending behind the coconuts.
Tip The trunk gets a little thinner as it climbs.
Step 7: Trunk rings
Draw short sagging curves across the trunk, one every finger-width, from the bottom up to the coconuts.
Step 8: Water
Draw a wavy sea line under the mound, from edge to edge. Add 3 short wavy lines below.
Step 9: The sun
In the top right corner, draw a round sun as big as a plum. Add 8 short rays around it.
Step 10: Sand and sun
Colour the mound sand yellow down to the wavy line. Colour the sun bright yellow.
Step 11: Green fronds, wood trunk
Colour all 5 leaves green. Colour the trunk wood brown, up to the coconuts.
Step 12: Brown coconuts, blue sea
Colour the coconuts dark brown and the sea blue, to the bottom and sides. Your island is done!
