How to Draw a Desert
Draw a desert in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: tall cactus.
Step 1: Tall cactus
Left of the middle, start near the bottom. Draw a tall loaf up, over a top, down to stop level.
Step 2: Two arms
Start on the left of the trunk. Draw a J arm up, back to the trunk. Do a right arm.
Step 3: Sand dunes
From the left edge draw a hill down to the trunk, then a long hill out to the right edge.
Step 4: Flat-top rock
Start on the right hill. Draw a slanted line up, across a flat top, and down to the hill.
Step 5: Ground
Start at the left edge. Draw a straight ground line under the cactus, and stop at the right edge.
Step 6: Round cactus and flower
Right of the cactus, start on the ground. Draw a squat dome and stop on the ground. Add a flower.
Step 7: Rib lines
Draw a line down each side of the trunk, one along each arm, and 2 down the round cactus.
Step 8: Prickles
Dot little prickles along the rib lines: 4 on each trunk line and 2 on each arm.
Step 9: Sun
In the top right corner draw a circle for the sun, with 8 short rays around it like a clock.
Step 10: Sand ripples and birds
Draw a few little rainbow curves on the sand for wind ripples. Draw 2 little flat-M birds in the sky.
Step 11: Yellow sun, sandy dunes
Colour the sun yellow. Colour the dunes and the ground sand, right to the edges of the page.
Step 12: Pink flower, orange rock
Colour the little flower pink and the flat-top rock orange.
Step 13: Green cacti
Colour the tall cactus and the round cactus green. Go over your lines and you are done!
