How to Draw an Indian Paintbrush
Draw an indian paintbrush in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the stalk.
Step 1: The stalk
From near the bottom, draw a tall thin stalk up to the middle, a little wider at the bottom.
Step 2: Bottom bracts
On top of the stalk draw a tall pointed petal. Tuck one more behind it on each side, leaning out.
Tip These bright petals are really leaves called bracts.
Step 3: Middle bracts
Behind them draw 4 more points peeking up: 2 tall ones in the gaps and 2 leaning out.
Tip Start each one on a petal you already drew, so nothing floats.
Step 4: Pointed top
Behind those draw the tallest point in the middle, with one shorter point on each side.
Tip Now the top looks like a brush dipped in paint.
Step 5: Lower leaves
Low on the stalk draw a long thin pointed leaf out to the left. Draw one higher on the right.
Tip Keep the leaves thin, like blades of grass.
Step 6: Upper leaves
Higher up draw 2 more thin pointed leaves, one from the stalk to the left and one to the right.
Step 7: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line across, under the stalk. Flick up 2 grass blades each side, a little away from it.
Step 8: Orange bottom
Colour the 3 bottom bracts orange.
Tip Orange is the lightest colour here, so it goes first.
Step 9: Green stalk
Colour the stalk and the 4 leaves green.
Step 10: Red top
Colour all the other bracts bright red, and your Indian paintbrush is done!
