How to Draw a Coneflower
Draw a coneflower in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cone.
Step 1: The cone
Near the top, draw a tall dome like a thimble, as big as a plum, with a flat bottom.
Tip The cone is the flower's middle: it sticks up.
Step 2: Two front petals
From the bottom edge of the dome, draw 2 long petals hanging down, a little apart, like drooping tongues.
Step 3: Petals either side
Draw 2 more petals either side of them, drooping out and down from the dome's edge, tucked behind.
Step 4: Outer petals
At each end of the dome, draw 2 more petals sloping down and out, tucked behind the others.
Step 5: Dots on the cone
Dot 7 little dots over the dome in rows for its prickly middle.
Step 6: The stem
Start under the dome between the front petals. Draw 2 gently curved lines down to near the bottom, getting wider.
Step 7: Two leaves
Start on the stem below the flower. Draw a fat leaf out left and another lower right, back to it.
Step 8: Leaf veins
Start on the stem inside each leaf. Draw a curved vein out toward the tip, stopping just short.
Step 9: Ground and grass
Draw a soft ground line across the bottom. Flick 2 grass blades on each side, a finger from the stem.
Step 10: Pink petals
Go over your lines. Colour every petal pink.
Step 11: Orange cone, green stem
Colour the dome orange, leaving the dots black. Colour the stem and leaves leaf green.
