How to Draw an Icebreaker Ship
Draw an icebreaker ship in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ice sheet and water.
Step 1: Ice sheet and water
Rule a low water line. From the left edge draw a long, flat ice sheet with a jagged end.
Tip The ice top is a finger above the water. Add one zigzag crack.
Step 2: The hull
Start on the water. Sweep up a tall bow, run the deck back, and drop down into the water.
Tip The bow rides up onto the ice. Add a second line under the deck.
Step 3: Porthole eyes
On the hull draw 2 big porthole eyes, a porthole apart. Add a pupil in each with a white sparkle.
Step 4: The smile
Start under the left eye. Draw one big wide U smile across and stop under the right eye.
Step 5: Cracking the ice
Where the bow meets the water, draw 2 big ice slabs tipping up, from the water up and back down.
Step 6: Deck house and waterline
Draw a long low box on the deck. Rule a waterline along the hull, from bow back to stern.
Step 7: The bridge
Near the back, start on the hull. Draw a tall upside-down U for the bridge, stopping on the hull.
Tip Square corners, and a row of 3 small windows near the top.
Step 8: Funnel and smoke
Start on the bridge roof. Draw a fat funnel back down to it. Add a top line and 3 puffs.
Step 9: Mast and flag
From an oval on the front deck draw a tall mast up to a ball. Add a flag below it.
Tip The flag points backwards because the ship sails forward, to the left.
Step 10: Yellow funnel, sky windows
Go over your lines. Colour the flag and the funnel yellow, below the top line. Colour the windows sky blue.
Tip Leave the bridge, the deck house and all the ice white.
Step 11: Red hull, slate band
Colour the hull red above the waterline, around the eyes, and slate grey below it. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Black top, blue water
Colour the funnel top black. Colour the water blue, from the water line down to the bottom.
