How to Draw a Windsurfer

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a windsurfer in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the board.

Print

  1. Step 1: The board

Below the middle draw a long thin board lying flat, round at the left end, pointed at the right.

Tip Long and skinny, like a stretched surfboard.

  2. Step 2: The mast

From the board, left of middle, draw a tall thin pole leaning up right, with a ball on top.

Tip The mast reaches almost to the top of the paper.

  3. Step 3: The sail

Start under the ball. Draw a big round sail bellying down left to a point, then back to the mast.

Tip The sail's bottom stops a hand above the board.

  4. Step 4: The rider

Left of the mast draw a round head with hair, 2 dotty eyes and a smile. Add a short body.

  5. Step 5: Arms and legs

Draw 2 bent arms with mitten hands. Add 2 legs with bent knees and feet on the board.

  6. Step 6: The boom

From halfway up the mast draw a curve through the hands to the sail's point, then another back.

Tip The 2 curves pass behind the rider's body and arms.

  7. Step 7: Battens and window

Draw 2 lines across the sail's top with a band between. Add a small window under the boom.

  8. Step 8: Waves

Start at the left edge by the board. Draw wave bumps across to the right edge. Add a lower row.

  9. Step 9: Sun and seagull

Draw a sun with 8 short rays top left, and a seagull like a flying M top right.

  10. Step 10: Yellow and peach

Colour the sun, hair and board yellow. Colour the face, arms, hands, legs and feet peach. Leave the eyes white.

  11. Step 11: Pink sail, grey mast

Colour the sail pink around the rider, the stripe and the window. Colour the mast and ball grey.

  12. Step 12: Purple stripe, blue sea

Colour the stripe purple. Colour the vest blue, and the sea blue from the top wave to the bottom.
