How to Draw a Hydra

13 steps · Tricky · about 10 min

Draw a hydra in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the first head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The first head

Near the top of your paper draw a smooth egg head, narrowing to a rounded snout at the bottom.

Tip Leave room below: 2 more heads and a fat body must fit.

  2. Step 2: Eyes and smile

Above the middle of the head draw 2 big round eyes. Dot 2 nostrils and add a wide smile.

  3. Step 3: Ground and body

Draw a ground line. On it draw a fat hump body like a pebble, leaving room for a neck.

  4. Step 4: The middle neck

From under the chin draw 2 neck lines swinging down in an S. Stop on the top of the body.

Tip The neck is narrowest at the head, widest at the body.

  5. Step 5: Two more necks

From each side of the body draw a neck curving out and up like a banana, narrower toward the top.

  6. Step 6: Two more heads

On top of each side neck draw a snake head like the first, a little smaller and tilted outward.

Tip All 3 heads look straight at you.

  7. Step 7: Left head eyes

Give the left head 2 big round eyes with a black dot and a white shine.

  8. Step 8: Right head eyes

Give the right head the same 2 big round eyes with a black dot and a white shine.

  9. Step 9: Smiles and tongues

On each side snout dot 2 nostrils and draw a wide smile. From every smile hang a thin forked tongue.

  10. Step 10: Tail and feet

Give each bottom corner a round foot with 2 toe lines. Curl a tail up from the right side.

  11. Step 11: Belly and spots

Low in the middle of the body draw an oval belly. Scatter 3 oval spots around it.

  12. Step 12: Yellow belly, red tongues

Colour the belly and the 3 spots yellow. Colour the 3 forked tongues red.

  13. Step 13: Green hydra

Colour the body, necks, heads, feet and tail green, going around the yellow and red. Leave the eyes white.
