How to Draw a Leviathan

13 steps · Tricky · about 10 min

Draw a leviathan in 13 steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big round head

Top left, draw a big round head like an egg, wide on top and narrower at the chin.

Tip Make the head big: about a third as tall as the picture.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

Across the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and shine in each.

  3. Step 3: Nose and smile

Dot 2 tiny nostrils under the eyes. Draw a wide happy smile low on the head, eye to eye.

  4. Step 4: Curving neck

Start low on each cheek. Draw a neck line curving down, and stop at the sea. Rub out the chin.

Tip No line across the bottom: the neck dives into the water.

  5. Step 5: Two humps

From the right neck line, draw a big hump down to the sea. Add a smaller hump beside it.

Tip Each hump rises slowly and slides back into the sea.

  6. Step 6: Whale tail

At the far right, draw a whale tail poking up out of the water: a stalk with 2 round lobes.

  7. Step 7: The sea

From the left edge, draw 1 long straight sea line, and stop at the right edge.

Tip Everything below this line is under water.

  8. Step 8: Tiny ship

At the far left, draw a tiny boat, starting and ending on the sea line. Add a mast and sail.

  9. Step 9: Water spout

Start on top of the head. Draw a spout of water fanning out both ways. Stop on the head.

  10. Step 10: Fin on top

Start on the big hump. Draw a soft fin curving up and back, and stop on the hump further along.

  11. Step 11: Light blue water

Go over your lines. Colour the spout and everything under the sea line light blue.

  12. Step 12: Blue leviathan

Colour the head, neck, humps and tail blue, down to the sea line. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Slate fin, brown ship

Colour the fin slate grey above the back line, and the ship brown. Leave the sail white.
