How to Draw a Hurdy-Gurdy
Draw a hurdy-gurdy in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the body.
Step 1: The body
Draw a violin shape lying down: a small round bump on the left, a big round bump on the right.
Tip A hurdy-gurdy makes music when you turn its crank.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Low on the big bump draw 2 egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each. Leave the eyes white.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile, and a small flat oval cheek at each end.
Step 4: The key box
Along the middle draw a long flat box, from just past the left end to the big bump.
Tip The keys you press live inside this box.
Step 5: Pegbox and pegs
Off the key box's left end draw a round box. Add 2 pegs up from it, 2 down, with knobs.
Step 6: The keys
Along the bottom of the key box draw 5 little rounded key tabs, with gaps between them.
Step 7: Wheel cover
Where the key box stops, draw a round hump with a flat bottom over the middle for the wheel cover.
Step 8: Strings and tailpiece
Near the right end draw a small box. Draw 2 long strings from the pegbox, under the hump, to it.
Step 9: The crank
From the right end draw a thin bent handle going out and down, with a round knob on the end.
Step 10: Sound hole
Above the key box on the small bump draw a little circle for a sound hole.
Step 11: Ground and notes
Draw a ground line under the body from left to right, and a music note in the air each side.
Step 12: Pink cheeks, red knob
Colour the cheeks pink and the knob red.
Step 13: Tan parts, grey crank
Colour the key box, keys, pegs, hump and tailpiece tan. Colour the crank grey.
Step 14: Wood body
Colour the body and pegbox wood brown, around everything on top. Colour the hole and notes black.
